MEET LEANNA SIMPSON

copyofleanna_edited_edited.jpg

Leanna grew up in a small town and understands the needs and goals of farmers and corporate executives alike. She attended the University of Western Ontario for both her B.A. (Hons) and M.A. in history, during which she was both a Dean’s list student and, in 1995, achieved the extraordinary achievement of becoming a Western nominee for the Rhodes Scholarship. After working with children with disabilities for many years, Leanna attended law school where she received the Reuben Wells Leonard prize in family law. Following law school, Leanna worked for 16 years, from articles through to full equity partner, at a major law firm where she was the practice group leader of the matrimonial law group. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2015, Leanna decided to follow her original dream of opening her own law practice. She has experience in all areas of law, including commercial litigation and administrative law, all of which allows her to bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to her family and estate client needs. She is an avid traveler, runner, cancer survivor and is in the process of obtaining her private pilot’s license. Leanna knows how to fight and win, and has been successful in family and estate litigation cases at all levels of court in Ontario. She is also the President of the Elgin Law Association, a part of the Elgin Unified Family Court liaison committee and a member of the Southwest regional counsel for the Ontario Bar Association.

MEET REBECCA COYNE

Rebecca Coyne grew up in Etobicoke, Ontario, in a blended family. She entered King’s College at Western University, on an academic scholarship, and graduated in 1995 with a B.A. in Political Science. After graduation, she moved home to Toronto to attend Osgoode Hall Law School, where she focused on commercial and tax law, achieving her Bachelor of Laws in 1998. She was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2000. After graduation, Rebecca practiced personal injury, family law, and commercial litigation at a respected Toronto law firm. Later, she was counsel with the Business Law group at the Department of Justice, Canada, where her practice focused on commercial and employment litigation.

Over the years, Rebecca also spent time as a perinatal patient advocate and a full-time mom to three kids and two hilarious dogs. In December 2019, Rebecca founded Coyne Law. Her practice focuses on serving clients in all aspects of family law, with a special emphasis on litigation of high-conflict parenting situations.

Rebecca is a fierce advocate and expert in strategising for the long game of litigation. She will not tell you what you want to hear and she will point clients toward family mediation wherever possible. Rebecca prides herself on being available to her clients, particularly when they are in crisis.

Our firm has several staff working behind the scenes to help support winning cases.
